The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has issued
Special Publication 800-144, Guidelines on Security and Privacy in
Public Cloud Computing, which offers advice applicable to both
government and private sector organizations. Companies and agencies are
urged not to leave security up to service providers and service
arrangements. Instead, organizations need to take responsibility for
specifying security and privacy requirements such as access control and
vulnerability scanning. In addition, contractual language should spell
out the roles and responsibilities of the providers and the users.
