Tools Discussion: Favorites
The first tool I would like to discuss is BackTrack. More of an Operating System than a tool; the lightweight and slip-streamed tools inside this OS make it a must have for any Wireless Security Pro. BackTrack is an open-source Linux distro based on Kubuntu but is a highly specialize dev project with wireless security at the heart.
***You can download BackTrack 5 R1 here for free and use: http://www.backtrack-linux.org/downloads/
If you are new to Linux and wireless penetration testing, I would not recommend using this OS right away. There are a lot of configurations, get used to Kubuntu first.
BackTrack 5 comes in a form I just can’t get enough of and I think it is why I love it so much. Bootable!!! Burn the ISO to a CD or DVD or Flash Drive and fire up a VMWare session and you are good to go!!! Better yet boot this sucker right from computer startup and you have quite the tool set at your disposal.
You can find extensive tutorials here on configuring and using BackTrack: http://www.backtrack-linux.org/tutorials/
